About Mountains Tales
My name is Sue Collins, and I’m the proud owner and operator of Mountains Tales, a local Blue Mountains business. I have a deep love for the Blue Mountains, and I’m excited to share its stories with both locals and visitors.
I have a passion for Australian history stories, and this enthusiasm has motivated me to establish a range of village walking tours. Come join me, and together we can delve into the captivating narratives of the Leura Story, Katoomba Story, and the Mt Victoria Story.
Mountains Tales has expanded its offerings to include Coach Commentary Tours catering to diverse coach groups visiting the Blue Mountains. Whether it’s for Conferences and Events, Social Groups, or Educational Tours, we’ve got you covered.
With experience in the corporate realm in Sydney, specifically in Sales and HR, I comprehend the elements essential for a thriving corporate getaway – time to chill, form connections, learn and have fun and laughter along the way.
The Social Group Day Trips I organize are consistently filled with laughter. Regardless of how frequently you’ve explored the Blue Mountains, there’s always an abundance of stories waiting to be discovered and enjoyed, ensuring a day trip that’s truly unforgettable.
Revisiting my childhood experiences and discovering the colonial stories of Sydney, our Educational Tours delve into our not-so-distant colonial past. Focused on stage 2 and 3 students, within the framework of the Australian History Key Learning Area (KLA), our program involves storytelling and role play, transforming the breathtaking landscapes of the Blue Mountains into an immersive classroom.
Within my tours, I not only recount the captivating tales of the Blue Mountains but also offer a glimpse into my own story. My deep love for community and personal commitment extends to serving as an SES volunteer, responding to the community’s needs in times of crisis. Additionally, I hold the role of coordinator for ANZAC Day services in Leura and actively participate in both Leura and Blue Mountains heritage committees.
With my background as a certified adult educator, I am confident that participants in my tours will acquire enhanced knowledge and comprehension of the Blue Mountains. Come join me on this journey, and I am certain you’ll develop a profound appreciation for the beauty and history of the Blue Mountains as well.

Sue is an brilliant presenter, passionate about the history she generously unfurls along the way and a captivating storyteller. I love Katoomba and thought I knew it's story but now I understand so much more - some intriguing details and why, for example, we have so many Art Deco buildings still standing. It's had me thinking about it ever since. I highly recommend the tour for locals and visitors, it was thoroughly entertaining and illuminating. Thanks, Sue! See you soon on the Leura Tour! Laura Overton2023-09-03recommends Wow - where did the last 2 hours go?! Mary Mendelsohn2023-03-27recommends This is my first visit to Australia. Katoomba was recommended by a friend and was a fun journey from Sydney. I spent the day walking about on my own, enjoying the town and Echo Point but I am so glad I booked a tour with Mountain Tales. Sue made the town come alive with her stories, rich with history and great insights. I enjoyed her explanations of how Katoomba came to be, its boom and all the services that local entrepreneurs created for the tourists and why things changed. Her stories, pictures and love of the area only made me more excited to explore the region. Thank you Sue for an awesome afternoon! Paul Rilstone2023-03-07recommends What a fantastic experience! Having recently moved to the Blue Mountains, I regularly walk the streets of Leura but had never considered the history, challenges or why this country town is different from others. The tour was relaxed, engaging, and packed with information. Sue is an amazing historian, humorous and entertaining. I would highly recommend the opportunity to have a glimpse into the past. Kerrie Kimes2023-01-10recommends New to living in the mountains and wanting to know more about where we live we decided to do the Leura walk with Sue. It was excellent, so much knowledge and historical pictures to back up the story telling. We loved it and are now planning to do the Katoomba walk soon with friends. Highly recommend Mountains Tale. Thank you once again Sue. Christine Conolly2022-12-30recommends Absolutely fantastic. Sue has a passion for local history and will take you on a magical journey back in time. On a lovely tour throughout town you will see theatres, pubs, and street corners come to life as if you were actually there in 1910. Katoomba is steeped in history and you simply cannot visit here without taking the Mountain Tales walking tour…!!!!! Paul Watkins2022-09-07recommends It was fantastic, and I highly recommend the tour. The walking is easy and well paced. If you are visiting the area and love Australian history (or history in general) there is no better way than to join Sue and discover the fascinating story behind the making of an iconic Blue Mountains town. The best part for me was discovering Leura's hidden gems. Sue is an excellent guide....at the end of the walk, I wanted more and so will also do her Katoomba tour. If you have friends visiting from overseas, this would make an awesome holiday gift... now that I think about it, it would also make a great gift for anyone living in Sydney, or visiting from interstate.
